Historical Review
In the 1980s, as changing ocean conditions fostered an extraordinary surge in shrimp populations, a group of regional and national companies chose to invest in fishing along the Patagonian coast. On July 30, 1984, they gathered in Puerto Madryn to establish representation for the fishing sector in Patagonia, at a time when the industry was gaining increasing importance. Fourteen companies took part in that founding meeting, seeking to align the sector’s interests with those of the region, address infrastructure challenges, and engage in dialogue on regional fishing regulations, among other issues.
Since then, CAPIP has continued to operate, upholding the entrepreneurial spirit of its founding members.
